While there are several different Wyandotte chicken breeds available, the Silver Laced Wyandotte breed has become arguably the most popular. It first originated in New York back in the 1870s and has evolved into one of the greatest American heritage breeds ever developed. Between the Silver Laced Wyandotte’s striking good looks and ability to produce eggs consistently, there are many people who have understandably welcomed them onto their farms and into their backyards.
Silver Laced Wyandotte chickens are well equipped to handle the harshest of winters, thanks to their pea combs. They also boast large white feathers with black trim, creating a lacing effect on their bodies and have black, fluffy feathers on their tails that may require occasional trimming. While this breed is considered to be a cold hardy breed, keep in mind that they prefer to stay nestled in their coop when extremely cold temperatures hit.
