The Splash Laced Red Wyandotte has a rounded, curvy figure with mostly mahogany/red with light grey around the edge of every feather. The blue gene will color the feathers either light blue or dark blue in the lacing making this breed vary somewhat in appearance from chick to chick. Similar to the Blue Laced Red, Splash is the lightest shade out of the blues. These chickens do not breed true color, and you may receive blue, black, or splash chicks. The Splash Laced Red Wyandotte chickens are not excellent layers but will produce around 200 medium-sized eggs per year that will be light brown or cream.
Hens are mild-tempered, naturally broody and will actively care for both eggs and baby chicks. This breed can also be raised for meat. This breed is exceptionally cold hardy. They are highly friendly especially when children are involved. The Splash Laced Red Wyandotte chicken is an excellent dual-purpose chicken that would make an amazing choice for first-time farmers.
